JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Manager Interprofessional Practice, Skin and Wound and Student Placements, the Wound Care Specialist will work collaboratively with the leadership team, educators and inter-professional team to ensure the development and implementation of best practices in skin care and prevention and management of wounds. Effective leadership will result in consistent application of evidence informed practices to achieve quality patient care that improves outcomes in our high-risk patient populations. The Wound Care Specialist is instrumental in program development aimed to reduce the incidence and prevalence of pressure injuries. Teaching and mentoring of staff, evaluating outcomes, and monitoring and reporting of selected indicators are key components of this role.
The Wound Care Specialist will function with a high degree of attention to detail, quality of workmanship, accuracy and ability to prioritize work in a dynamic, fast paced, team setting, often working with competing priorities. Requirements/Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
RN certificate of competence in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Bachelor’s Degree.
CNA certification in Wound Ostomy and Continence.
Master’s Degree preferred.
Recognized course in Debridement preferred.
Minimum 3 years relevant nursing experience related to wound and skin management.
Member of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) (preferred).
Member of RNAO interest group, Ontario Wound Interest Group (ONTWIG) (preferred).
Member of Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence Canada (NSWOC) (preferred).
Member of Canadian Association of Wound Care (CAWC) (preferred).
Demonstrated understanding of interprofessional collaboration and education.
Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal communication, team building, and coaching skills that encourages positive interactions among all members of the health care team.
Proven experience in needs assessment, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Proven experience in the planning and implementation of quality improvement projects.
Systems level thinking and ability to think strategically.
Ability to review and critically analyze literature and research and to apply findings and theoretical frameworks into clinical practice and standards of care.
Demonstrated commitment to the principles of Patient and Family-Centred Care.
Demonstrated ability to provide effective clinical practice leadership.
Ability to work independently, be self-directed and participate in/lead interprofessional teams.
Proven ability to facilitate ongoing staff development.

Proficiency in working with Microsoft Office 365, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
