This presentation will focus on providing the bedside clinician with comfortable and versatile compression options that may be used in the management of chronic venous insufficiency. Discussion will include developing patient-centered goals to enhance compression compliance. Selection of wound contact antimicrobial dressings to support compression therapy will also be reviewed. Patient case studies will be discussed in which AccuWrap (2 layer Compression Bandage System) and Ioplex (Iodophor Foam Dressing) were trialed to manage complex wounds in the presence of chronic venous insufficiency.

Objectives

  1. Explore therapeutic compression options based on individualized assessment
  2. Discuss a versatile antimicrobial wound contact dressings that may be used beneath compression
  3. Review clinical case studies using AccuWrap (2 layer Compression Bandage System) and Ioplex (Iodophor Foam Dressing) in the management of complex chronic venous insufficiency
  4. Facilitate hands-on clinical practice by incorporating “tips and tricks” into discussion

Presented by 

Michele Labbie RN, MN, NP

Michele is a Nurse Practitioner who is passionate about complex wound management in the context of chronic disease management, particularly in people with lower leg ulcerations and diabetic foot complications. Michele has focused her expertise in this area for over 25 years and is actively involved in clinical research, pathway and practice guidelines development and in the implementation of evidence-based care.

She provides wound and infection management education to health care professionals in numerous settings. Michele practices in an out-patient clinic and is involved in ambulatory intravenous and infusion therapy. She is also an instructor at the Wound Certificate Program at MacEwan University in Edmonton.
