- Easily Earn 20+ Hours Towards your CNA Certification Renewal Through NSWOCC
As WOCC(C) certified NSWOCs, your CNA Certification demonstrates your expertise, commitment to ongoing learning in your field, and that you “care to be the best!” However, your certification only stays valid for a 5-year term, and one great way to renew is through Continuous Learning (CL)! For your benefit, NSWOCC offers many opportunities for you to stay up-to-date on your certification. All NSWOCC members are entitled to 4 CL hours per year during the 5-year renewal window, for a total of 20 hours. Each month, we offer webinars from leading experts in the healthcare industry on a wide variety of essential NSWOC-related topics. By attending a continuing education webinar live on Zoom or watching a previously recorded webinar, you can easily receive your learning hours. As well, all those who attend the NSWOCC National Conference from May 3rd-7th, 2023 are also able to claim 6 Continuous Learning hours per day of education. This is a great opportunity to not only receive hours towards your CNA Certification renewal but to expand your network within the healthcare industry! Don't hesitate! La période d'inscription à l'examen de certification et au renouvellement par apprentissage continu de l'Association des infirmières et infirmiers du Canada (AIIC) est maintenant ouverte ! Pour ceux qui passeront leur examen de certification initial au cours de la période d'examen du printemps 2023, vous pouvez vous inscrire entre le 11 janvier et le 31 mars 2023. Pour ceux qui renouvellent leur certification par apprentissage continu, vous pouvez vous inscrire entre le 11 janvier 2023 et le 16 décembre 2023. Renouvellement par l'apprentissage continu : Tous les membres de l'ISPSCC sont éligibles pour des heures d'apprentissage continu En préparation du renouvellement de votre certification CNA par heures d'apprentissage continu, nous souhaitons rappeler à tous les membres que vous êtes éligible à 4 heures par an pendant la période de cinq ans des membres ISPSCC pour un total de 20 heures. En assistant au congrès national de l'ISPSCC, vous avez droit à 6 heures de formation continue par jour de formation. Tous les membres du conseil d'administration de l'ISPSCC et les membres du programme de base peuvent réclamer 25 heures supplémentaires. Les infirmières certifiées qui ne sont pas membres de l'AIIC peuvent adhérer à l'AIIC et économiser sur leurs frais de renouvellement! - The CNA Certification Application Window is now Open
The application window for the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) certification exam & renewal by continuous learning is now open! For those writing their initial certification exam in the 2023 Spring Exam writing window, you can apply between January 11-March 31, 2023. For those renewing by Continuous Learning, you may apply between January 11, 2023 and December 16, 2023. Renewing by Continuous Learning: all NSWOCC Members are eligible for additional continuous learning hours! In preparation for renewing your CNA Certification by continuous learning hours, we want to remind all members that for registering as an NSWOCC member, you are eligible to 4 hours per year, and during the the five-year period between certification writing and or/renewal, that means a total of 20 hours. By attending the NSWOCC National Conference, you are entitled to 6 continuous learning hours per day of education. All NSWOCC Board Members and Core Program Members are able to claim another 25 hours. Certified nurses that are not CNA members can join CNA and save on their renewal fees! Abstracts Category Ostomy, wound, continence or leadership that are research, case study or practice based or demonstrate leadership of the NSWOC specialty. Why should you submit an Abstract? 1. Gain Exposure Accepted abstracts are seen by NSWOCs, SWANs, hospital & community nurses, and allied healthcare professionals including physicians, RNs, NPs, practical nurses from across the country! 2. Improve Wound, Ostomy and Continence Care Share your knowledge & findings with NSWOC, SWAN, and other healthcare professional colleagues to improve Wound, Ostomy, and Continence (WOC) patient care. 3. Add to your CV Accepted posters have a chance of being awarded 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and “People’s Choice” awards at the National Conference, which can bolster your CV Deadlines SOS (Solutions on the Spot): March 1, 2023 Oral Abstracts: January 31, 2023 Poster Abstracts: January 31, 2023 What are Solutions on the Spot (SOS)? The NSWOCC National Conference wants you to participate in our SOS: Solutions on the Spot session to talk about your challenging patient cases in wound, ostomy and continence. Don’t miss out on your opportunity to take part in this session dedicated to collaborating with your peers on some of the more challenging cases you have experienced in your clinical practice. The deadline to submit your most challenging patient case for the “SOS: Solutions on the Spot” NSWOCC National Conference session is March 1, 2023. The SOS: Solutions on the spot at the National Conference will consist of: Cases highlighting patients with challenging ostomies, wounds, and continence issues. Presentation of cases to conference attendees. Group discussion on ways to manage your patient challenge. Feedback and suggestions from esteemed colleagues. Guidelines: Presenters will be required to speak to a 10-minute power point which includes background information & interventions that have been successful and those that have not worked. Maximum 3 – 5 slides. High resolution photographs are encouraged with obtained patient consent. 10 minutes for discussion from session attendees. Due to time limitations, only 2-3 submissions will be selected by the NSWOCC conference planning committee. Submit your patient case before time runs out and add this session to your National Conference agenda!

We depend on our members to volunteer their time and expertise to carry out the mission and work of NSWOCC, and to keep moving the specialization of wound, ostomy and continence forward. If you are looking to enrich your experience and contribute to the field of wound, ostomy and continence in a new and rewarding way, now is your chance! We are still accepting applications for our newest core program: the NSWOCC Membership Core Program. The new Membership Core Program will bring together a group of NSWOCC Members to engage, discuss membership benefits and the member experience within the association and create a plan to drive positive change. Who can join the Core Program? How often do we meet? Membership Core Program meets once per month, except for July and August. Any NSWOCC Member may join the Core Program. If you're interested in joining, your role as a Core Program Committee Member would be: Members will work together as a team, led by the Core Program Leader Will be responsible for attending monthly Core Program Meetings Should be prepared to provide input, feedback, and ideas to help improve membership experience If you are interested in applying to be a committee member of the Membership Core Program, please send an e-mail of interest to office@nswoc.ca by December 22, 2022.You should join the Membership Core Program as a member if... - Call for Volunteers - Malignant Wounds: Canadian Best Practice Recommendations Project
We are looking for volunteers from each province and territory across Canada to work on a Malignant Wounds: Canadian Best Practice Recommendations. This project will be led by Debra Johnston, MN, RN, NSWOC, WOCC(C), IIWCC, who leads the Professional Development Core Program. We are also excited to be partnering with aligned national nursing associations in palliative care, hospice and oncology. The first project meeting will take place on Thursday January 26, 2023 at 730pm ET. The project will be completed by May 2024. If you are interested in joining the project team, please e-mail us at office@nswoc.ca with Malignant Wounds: Canadian Best Practice Recommendations in the subject line, then include a short biography and brief description of why you want to get involved or how you feel you can contribute. The expected time commitment for project team members would be about 1-3 hours per week, however the weekly project work will fluctuate based on project timeline. Project team members should have: Access to internet Availability to join a Zoom meeting monthly between 7:30pm-8:30pm ET/4:30pm-5:30pm PT Capacity to review clinical articles (PDF reader such as Adobe Acrobat) Microsoft Word & Excel (or Google Docs/Sheets) familiarity Subject matter expertise & experience Desire to work collaboratively with others Aspirations for personal and professional development We thank everyone who expresses interest in the project. - "Under Pressure to do Better" Pressure Injury Symposium
As a key partner for the "Under Pressure to do Better" Pressure Injury Symposium, we are happy to share the preliminary program for the accredited Pressure Injury Symposium on November 17, 2022 in partnership with Canadian Pressure Injury Advisory Panel (CPIAP) and Wounds Canada. The Pressure Injury Symposium coincides with the recognition of World Wide Pressure Injury Day on Thursday, November 17, 2022. This virtual event will examine the risks and causes along with the multi-disciplinary comprehensive management of pressure injuries by dietitians, nurses, surgeons, physicians and physiatrists to develop strategies, overcome barriers and improve patient outcomes. PRESS RELEASE Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy & Continence Canada 66 Leopolds Drive Ottawa, Ontario P: 613-762-5788 E: office@nswoc.ca FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 9, 2022 Ottawa, Ontario – Nov. 9, 2022 – We are pleased to announce that Samaia Aidroos of Ottawa, Ontario will be filling the position of the NSWOCC Digital Marketing Coordinator effective immediately. In this role, Samaia will be reporting to Mr. Troy Curtis, Director of Operations for NSWOCC. Samaia is her the fourth year at Carleton University studying cognitive science with a concentration in psychology. Within this challenging degree, she has developed strong research, writing, and analytical skills and achieved high success in her academic pursuits. She is on the Carleton University Dean’s Honour List and holds a President’s Scholarship and the Henry Marshall Tory Scholarship. Samaia has been developing skills in digital marketing throughout her university studies. She worked as a summer intern in marketing support for the non-profit National Capital FreeNet (NCF) where she organized and marketed NCF’s 30th anniversary time capsule event. As a part of this initiative, Samaia performed all social media marketing, conducted interviews with industry leaders, composed professional emails, conducted video interviews with industry leaders, and filming and editing of promotional material. She drafted the organization's social media calendar for the year and composed corresponding engaging content with the goal of maximizing consumer engagement. Samaia worked as a Team Lead and Peer Assisted Study Session Facilitator Carleton University Centre for Academic Support where she designed worksheets and workshops for a first-year programming course to allow students to review core content and drastically reduce their likelihood of failure in a high-fail-rate course. Planned and implemented training modules for fellow workshop facilitators to ensure effectiveness within their roles. Samaia also worked for Iambic Inc. as a Communications and Digital Marketing Intern where she researched and drafted blog articles to share knowledge and reach for the company using Microsoft Office Software. She composed engaging content for social media campaigns while developing a social media content calendar targeted toward driving maximum traffic to the company site. She performed paper prototyping, design flows, and UX suggestions for the company's website and mobile apps using Figma and Adobe XD. As a volunteer, Samaia worked as a Social Media Coordinator at Carleton Artificial Intelligence Society where she used digital marketing to drive workshop attendance and membership rates. She also fundraised as the volunteer VP of Community Outreach of Women in Leadership Carleton.We look forward to having Samaia as a part of the NSWOCC team where she will apply her knowledge and skill set to advancing NSWOCC and the specialized nurses that we serve.
