    Professional Development < Back Allison Lachaine MN, BScN, RN, NSWOC, IIWCC Professional Development My name is Allison Lachaine, MN, BScN, RN, NSWOC, IIWCC and I have been appointed as the new NSWOCC Core Program Leader for the Professional Development Core Program. I am the clinical nurse specialist for wound, ostomy, and continence at CarePartners community agency in Kitchener, Ontario. I started as a wound resource nurse in acute care on an in-person surgery unit where I worked in collaboration with the hospital’s Wound Care clinician. Discovering my love for wound care excellence, I then went on to complete the International Interdisciplinary Wound Care Course and then worked as the program lead for two community hospitals. As an avid and lifelong learner, I then went on to complete the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Institute’s NSWOC Program. In my current role, I am the provincial program lead for skin, wound, ostomy, and continence and work with Ontario Health at Home to ensure best practices are being utilized through all areas of the community from clinics to patients’ homes.

Since then she has been working in acute care as the certified NSWOC. She is the chair of BC provincial skin and wound committee and value analysis teams. Misty is the regional NSWOC BC / Yukon director. She is an instructor for the University of Victoria and has co-written the Wound Management for healthcare professional levels 1 & 2. She also works at a private ostomy clinic. Misty has 3 kids and a wonderful husband and in her spare time she likes to travel to their cabin in the Interior of BC for back country adventures and exploring.

Past experience includes serving as the Director of Global Strategic Marketing, Wound Care Core Business for ConvaTec division of Bristol-Myers Squibb in Skillman, New Jersey, USA and Business Unit Manager for Wound and Skin Care based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada prior to that. As an International Healthcare Consultant, she facilitated strategic business planning for the Board of Directors of the World Council of Enterostomal Therapists (WCET) in Hong Kong, Ostomy Canada Society and the International Skin Tears Panel (ISTAP). A Registered Nurse with a neurosurgical ICU clinical background, she completed the International Interdisciplinary Wound Care Course (IIWCC) at the University of Toronto, studied post graduate business and completed a post graduate program in Not-for-Profit Board Governance at the Telfer School of Business University of Ottawa and Rottman School of Business, University of Toronto.

    Office Administrator < Back Zachary Abraham (he/him) Office Administrator Zach is a 4th year student in Honours Health Studies at the University of Waterloo. While completing his undergraduate degree he has developed a strong interest in population health research and aims to pursue further studies after receiving a bachelor’s degree. Through his studies and working alongside professors, Zach has found an interest in the field and developed specific interest in gerontology, psychiatric epidemiology, and health service utilization. He is currently conducting research involving marginalization and its relationship with psychiatric readmission. Zach’s recent work experience include being a research assistant as well as working in athletics and conditioning all at the University of Waterloo. These experiences have helped him to develop an array of skills which allow him to take on new challenges and work in a variety of different settings.

I am a Registered Nurse with the designation of Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence and I am employed by SE Health in Hamilton. I have worked there for two and a half years. Before SE Health I worked at a regional hospital as a Skin and Wound Nurse. I completed my IIWCC in 2018 and decided to continue my education and acquire my NSWOC certification in 2020. I am Wound, Ostomy and Continence certified with the Canadian Nurses Association. For the past two years, I have participated on the Board of Wounds Niagara with our first post Covid Conference in the winter of 2023. I am also on the board of Niagara Ostomy Association, and I have an “Ask the NSWOC” page in their monthly newsletter. I have been invited to speak at their meetings several times. Part of my responsibilities with my present employers is to provide education for new hires, speak at group practice meetings, mentor nurses who have identified need for extra education in wound in ostomy. I have been asked to participate on the Coloplast Continence Advisory board which is a forum for exchanges with fellow clinicians with regards to continence nursing. I am part of the clinical faculty of NSWOC, and I will be mentoring a student in both summer and fall. If elected, over the next 2 years, I would like to improve NSWOC networking opportunities across Ontario.
