Objectives

1. Review challenges in managing the open abdomen
2. Be able to describe the role of traditional negative pressure wound therapy(tNPWT) and its application for temporary abdominal closure (TAC)
3. Learn application techniques to apply tNPWT for TAC in the open abdomen through a case study approach

Ashley Hudson, BSN, RN, NSWOCC, IIWCC, Global Clinical Strategy Manager

Ashley is a Nurse Specializing in Wound Ostomy and Continence, working with Smith+Nephew as Global Clinical Strategy Manager for Advanced Wound Management. Ashley graduated with distinction from the University of Victoria, School of Nursing Program and has since completed the International Interprofessional Wound Care Course (IIWCC), through the University of Toronto and the Wound Ostomy Continence program through Cleveland Clinic. Ashley has had experience working in home health as a wound care clinician, with previous nursing experiences in Burns and Plastics, Neurology & Spine, Surgical & Medical. Since joining Smith+Nephew 9 years ago, Ashley has worked as a Clinical Resource Specialist, National Clinical Liaison & most recently Medical Education Manager.

Allison Siler, BSN, RN, CWS, Medical Education Manager NPWT

Allison Siler is a BSN, RN who worked at Mercy Medical Center, a large level 1 trauma center in St. Louis, MO. During her time at the hospital, Allison was on the skin care team and spent a lot of time with the in-patient WOCs at her facility. She enjoyed learning from this group and loved to see the wounds progress. She was a clinical supervisor in the medical and trauma step-down ICUs and was cross trained to the ICU and Burn Unit, spending a short time in the PACU prior to joining S+N in 2011. At S+N she was on the clinical resource specialist team where she lead large NPWT evaluations and conversions, prior to becoming a Clinical Business Manager in 2019 and obtaining her Certified Wound Specialist certification that same year. Allison continued to love working with clinicians across the country and educating on basic would healing as well as seeing patient’s with chronic wounds finally progress to closure. She is now the US Medical Education Manager for NPWT.
