Job Description

The Urology Resource Centre is a component of Burlington Urology has an open part-time position for a Registered Nurse – Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence (NSWOC). As a member of the Burlington Urology team in Burlington, Ontario, the NSWOC provides specialized holistic assessment and management as an interprofessional team member to assist, counsel and help manage patients with bladder cancer, prostate cancer, urinary incontinence, kidney stones, and erectile dysfunction.

Requirements/Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have completed Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy & Continence Canada (NSWOCC) WOC-EP program (international certification will be considered if approved by NSWOCC) preferred

  • ORcompletion of the McMaster University Continence Program (either Nurse Continence Advisor certificate or Nursing Concepts in Continence Care Certificate of Professional Learning)

  • Must be an RN with current certificate of competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario,

  • CNA certification credential WOCC(C) preferred

  • A willingness to participate in further education programs/courses to remain current

  • Strong communication and teaching skills

  • A comprehensive knowledge of urology nursing is preferred

  • Experience in organizing patient scheduling

  • A willingness to learn how to teach and evaluate various erectile dysfunction interventions including intracavernosal injection, use of a penile vacuum pump and low intensity shockwave therapy

  • A willingness to learn conservative treatments and counsel patients experiencing Peyronie’s Disease

  • A willingness to learn hormone therapy counseling to manage to manage the potential side effects of androgen deprivation therapy for advanced prostate

  • A willingness to learn electronic documentation using the Accuro documentation system

  • Manage scheduling of patients into the Urology Resource Centre by receiving referrals from      urologists, family doctors, nurse practitioners and from patients themselves, including contacting patients and booking appointments
