CELEBRATING NSWOCs NSWOC WEEK April 18-22, 2022 Competent Before the global pandemic, NSWOCs were nurse leaders in driving and implementing research, policy, and delivering competency based wound, ostomy and continence clinical and cost effective care. Accountable During the pandemic, NSWOCs rose to the challenge, and were leaders throughout the national healthcare crisis. Sustainable NSWOCs will continue to lead wound, ostomy and continence research, influence policy and ensure best practices are translated to the bedside in order to support sustainable healthcare. In order to recognize NSWOCs across Canada, we are providing a series of posters featuring NSWOCs from each NSWOCC region, as well as one National flyer and one dedicated to our Indigenous Wound, Ostomy and Continence Core Program. We are pleased to be able to share a March 2022 podcast in audio and video form hosted by Dr. Kevin Woo, PhD, RN, NSWOC, WOCC(C), FAPWCA, of Advances in Skin and Wound Care. In this episode, Dr. Woo interviews Erin Rajhathy, MClSc-WH, RN, NSWOC, WOCC (C) about NSWOCC's Debridement: Canadian Best Practice Recommendations For Nurses. Erin provides information about the recommendations as well as her experience in the development of the BPR and offers recommendations on how the BPR may be used across all health care disciplines and sectors, as well as by the front line nurse, organizations developing policy, and provincial governing bodies looking to further define debridement as it pertains to scope of practice. Find an NSWOC (for WOCC(C) Certified NSWOCs only) For those certified NSWOCs who are able to provide specialized wound, ostomy and continence care to patients, we are asking you to update your registration information to include the languages that you provide services in. We depend on our members to volunteer their time and expertise to carry out the mission and work of NSWOCC, and to keep moving the specialization of wound, ostomy and continence forward. We are still accepting applications for our newest core program: the NSWOCC Membership Core Program. The new Membership Core Program will bring together a group of NSWOCC Members to engage, discuss membership benefits and the member experience within the association and create a plan to drive positive change. Who's in the Core Program? How often do we meet? Membership Core Program meets once per month, on the first Wednesday of the month. We currently have members from Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario on the Core Program and are looking for representation from NSWOCC members from Québec and Atlantic Canada. Upon receiving feedback from members like you through the 2022 membership survey, the Membership Core Program has been working hard to come up with ways to deliver more value for your membership than ever before! One of the key priorities of the Core Program is to provide and promote more ways for NSWOCC Members to interact from coast-to-coast. With this in mind, the Core Program Members have taken the initiative to help put together an NSWOCC Journal Club! The NSWOCC Journal Club Participating in a journal club with colleagues can be an enjoying and engaging way to network with peers, while staying informed with current research. In addition to enriching practice knowledge, a thriving journal club stimulates its participants to foster discussion, challenge current theory, and spark questions for further research. Our goal would be to start small with a group or groups of between 5-10 members to help facilitate discussion where everyone can equally participate. that is, Members must be courteous in their communication with each other, so that all members feel comfortable and are encouraged to contribute to the conversation. We would aim to meet quarterly, hosted by a Member of the Core Program to start, and would start with an introductory meeting to decide on a topic and articles to be selected for the first rotation. Each meeting would last roughly two hours, and each member of the Journal Club would be expected to review the chosen article thoroughly prior to the meeting and be prepared to discuss with the group. Background Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence Canada (NSWOCC) is a registered charity who serve to advance the profession of Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence and improve patient outcomes . The main publication is called the NSWOC Advance and it is published three times per year – in March, September and December. In order to improve French content, the NSWOCC is looking for a French editor for the NSWOC Advance. This is a very part-time volunteer position for a French Editor who is a core member of the editing team reports directly to the NSWOC Editor in Chief. Position Description Assist in sourcing articles in the French language in the tri-specialty of wound, ostomy and continence Editing and copyediting of French language articles Editing of grammar, punctuation, spelling, style, and language-specific expressions in the language of expertise Ensuring consistency regarding the use of terminology and style in the French language Reviewing, revising, and proofing soft copy and hard copy formats in the French language Interacting with the Editor in Chief of the NSWOC Advance Reporting of project status and project progress to the Editor in Chief on a regular basis. Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of experience publishing under regular deadlines. Must be detail-oriented, with proven ability to manage projects. Demonstrated ability to edit, revise, or rewrite textual content in the French language. Must be a team player. French language fluency and ability to speak and understand English are required. Previous experience in publishing articles industry is a strong plus Demonstrated experience using computer programs to edit files is essential. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word and Excel in particular, is required; the ability to learn new programs is essential.
