Learning Objectives

  • Improve ostomy assessment skills and facilitate proactive stoma care.
  • Identify and address early risks for potential peristomal skin complications.
  • Review how to assess and problem-solve challenging core anatomy and stoma profiles to: 
  1. Preserve intact peristomal skin 
  2. Achieve sustained, predictable pouch seals
  3. Optimize the health and quality of life of people living with an ostomy

Presented by:

Melody Yaceyko, MN-NP, RN, NSWOC

Melody is a Nurse Practitioner, NSWOC in the Greater Edmonton Metropolitan area, and is currently employed by Alberta Health Services Edmonton Zone Continuing Care and by Vital Signs Health Services, an independent provincial agency provider. Melody earned her nursing degree from the University of Alberta and completed the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Institute's NSWOC Program. Melody has fulfilled various roles in the Home Living Program, including participating as a member of the Short-Term Intervention Team and as an Ambulatory Clinic Case Manager. Current day-to-day responsibilities include teaching and consulting in the focal areas of wound, ostomy, and continence management.
