The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will work with adults (aged 16 and over) who have SCI, and co-existing wounds and/or pressure injuries, in an outpatient setting.  You will have a high level of autonomy for clinical decision-making related to your expertise in the comprehensive management of SCI and wound care.  As well, you will be expected to function as a consultant, collaborator and educator within an interprofessional team


The principal responsibilities of the NP role include: utilizing and demonstrating a comprehensive knowledge base and advanced clinical competence in the care of  SCI patients and wound care; collecting and interpreting data about the health of a patient to determine a medical diagnosis; treating complex patient wounds; playing a leadership role in clinical quality improvement; delivering, coordinating and participating in education for both patients and staff;  performing activities to further develop self and the nursing profession; acting as a resource and a consultant to individuals and groups within the professional SCI community, including other hospital/agencies; engaging in research activities, as appropriate; performing cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, with potential career growth and mobility across UHN.

Exigences/Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing required

  • Registered as a Nurse in the Extended Class (RNEC) with the College of Nurses of Ontario

  • Nurse Practitioner (NP) Adult certificate completed, with NSWOC certification required

  • Additional education and experience in area of spinal cord injury,  preferred

  • A minimum of 3-5 years relevant experience, including experience working in acute care;   rehab experience an asset

  • Expertise and/or certification in wound care required

  • Confidence in the care of medically complex adults with multiple co-morbidities

  • Experience in nursing research, program planning, and evaluation methodologies

  • Eligible for cross-appointment with the University of Toronto

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Excellent decision-making, problem solving and critical-thinking skills

  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills

  • Commitment to collaborative, interprofessional practice

  • Ability to work effectively independently and under stressful conditions.

  • Proficient computer skills and ability to utilize UHN’s Epic electronic health record

  • Ability to interpret and communicate appropriate policies and procedures to staff

  • Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code
